Our Intern Alice and ESC Volunteer Onur implement an online workhop about SDGs

These goals are an important initiative led by the United Nations from 2015 to achieve all the goals that can ensure all people the right of a decent and safe life, in harmony with the natural ecosystem. This is why they are called the SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. As many of us know, the development of the conditions of the humankind is not fair all over the world (as some researches of Oxfam and World Economic Forum report the 1% richest own the double of the wealth of the 90% of the population). Moreover the development and the economic growth have affected the environment and contributed to increasing climate change. Participants had time to reflect and change their directions in the future.

“All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.” Said Leo Tolstoy.

Every journey is a new opportunity to new chances, to new life or may be new love… If I have to speak for myself, I found the love of my life after a journey. Then she abandoned me and When she had gone I lost even myself. Although I knew that I will not find her again even so at every opportunity I made a plan and I went on a journey.

That was a journey in a journey alike dreaming in a dream. Being in Sofia was the first step that I took for travel in the New Year. Also It was one of my most accurate steps. After spending some time in Sofia me and my roommates decided to visit Plovdiv. We were so excited because we were going to travel by train in a different country. We had to spend our money very carefully. That's why we were prepared really hard. Like making sandwiches, buying some cheap and healthy snacks.

ree

Eventually we got the train and our three-hours journey had begun. The first 45 minutes were interesting for us but after that all of us tried to find a way to sleep. Some of us thought our own coat was the ex-lover that we missed and slept by hugging it. Some of us put on headphones and listened to music. One way or another we arrived in Plovdiv happily.

In the first moments we arrived at the Plovdiv we needed to find a toilet. Because we ate we drank on the train… We asked so many different places for WC but everybody rejected us. At last we went to the municipality. There was nothing left to do. But again we rejected…

While we were leaving the city hall in a totally disappointed manner, an attendant told us that we could go to the mosque and she showed us where to go. We rejoiced like we found treasure.

We started visiting all the city on foot. In my opinion travelling on foot is the God of travelling. Because when you walk around, you learn around by heart. Speaking of heart and god, I remembered the sacredness of the places we visited.

ree

We went to The Assumption of the Holy Virgin orthodox church, Djumaya Mosque, Plovdiv Ancient Roman Theater, Nebet Hill and maybe dozens of other places but we forgot their names. But there was something that we didn't forget, is energy which cannot be expressed in words, is the air of ancient lives and old people…

While we were walking around, we felt like we traveled in time. Without any judgement or glances. They didn’t judge us because they were like us. They were as if they were unwittingly detached from the time they actually lived and someone left them there. Although they didn’t care about that. They were singing and dancing like there is no tomorrow.

ree

Although it is a small city, Plovdiv fascinated us. While we were walking oldtown’s street we were not like ourselves. We weren't hungry, we weren't thirsty. We were just walking like deceived by a master illusionist. Yeah, we found the nickname of this city for us: Master illusionist… Although the city deceived us we learned something: “Be Brave! Be wild! And stay forever! Hungry for art, love, knowledge and adventure!”

While we speak about love, art, being brave or wild but for each of one we have to be alive. So what is the first condition of being alive? Eating…

When we noticed that condition we turned to real life. As I said at the beginning, we had to use our money sparingly. That’s why we opened our bags and we checked what was left in them.

We were lucky! We found 1 sandwich and we shared that to be alive. We rejoice and we thanked God for the blessing God has given us.

ree

With the energy that we got from our food, we set off again toward the train station, where our return journey would begin.

We arrived at the station early. We bought our tickets and we started to wait for our time. But how could we know that a gipsy man would bother us? If we knew, would we ever go early? Of course not. Even so, this is real life. We are not in a fairy tale. One way or another we parried the guy that asked for some money or cigarettes. After that we saw the beautiness that God sent for us to see: Sunset…

ree

I know it's not that nice for you or meaningful but me - as an electrical engineer candidate, you can't even guess the value of the sunsets behind transmission towers for me.

As in the story of Leyla and Mecnun. It is like an answer that you give when someone says ugly to your beloved: “See her through my eyes...” So “See this sunset behind transmission lines through my eyes…”

On 30th January 2021 Saturday, I attended a presentation: “Digital Transformation of Factories / e-F@ctory / MAISART ”.

This event took place by Mitsubishi’s Product Management and Marketing unit manager Mr. Tolga Bizel. He is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer. I saw that event’s announcement on the Chamber of Electrical Engineers’ Linkedin page. These kinds of events are related with my close future profession that’s why I am always following and attending them.

ree

First of all he explains what is MAISART, MAISART is “Mitsubishi Electric’s AI creates the State-of-the-ART in technology.” There are three Technologies that make up Maisart: Deep learning, Reinforcement learning, Big data analysis.

Deep learning: Compact algorithm. Implement high level AI for all equipment. There are machines which work like humans. Actually sometimes they work better than humans. The reason this machine Works better than humans is deep learning.

There is big data every single day about what we are doing with our phones, computers or some electronic devices which are connected to the internet. These movements are always recorded by the devices and collected somewhere.

They are always watching us and they record how we are doing what we are doing. After that this big data occurs. Everyone can process this data via algorithms and then that data becomes more sense for using. Every different field has its own algorithms. Because every factory or working place is doing different actions. So in short “deep learning” is an algorithm.

Reinforcement learning: Implementation of Mitsubishi’s AI in a short period of time by speedy learning. Reinforcement learning is a type of AI machine learning. Computers usually act following a human-created program. With reinforcement learning, however, a computer can understand the current situation by itself, set its own rules, and determine what action to take. Humans do not need to set the rules with a program. For a computer to determine what action to take next, it needs a lot of experiences, including experiences of failure, just as humans do.

These two ideas are really important: deep learning and reinforcement learning. We can separate them like this: in deep learning we giving to machines or computers a algorithm and they starting to interpret of big data and according algorithm that giving by factory’s manager and big data, they deciding on how they do of what they do. Deep learning is the first step of process.

For Reinforcement learning: After the starting progress, the machine encounters some problems like heating, lack of raw materials, lack of efficiency, machine part faults, in short anything that slows or stops the process. Machine analyzes those problems and it saves solutions and processes its own mind. Reinforcement learning is the part of AI that learns through the principle of “practice makes perfect.” It is the part of AI that finds success from failure.

Big Data Analysis: Make data analysis smarter in edge computing. Like I said before, Big data is broadly divided into data generated by humans (on social networks, for example) and data generated by things (such as sensors placed on equipment). The amount of data generated by things in particular is increasing rapidly as IoT spreads. Much attention is focusing on edge computing as a way to process this data quickly. This is because it would be very difficult to keep up with the explosive growth in data by existing means that depend on the cloud for all data processing, because that increases the data communications load and lowers responsiveness.

These three Technologies which Mitsubishi use are provides some features (that we will see in every factory soon):

-Examples of Alliance partners and E-Factory Collaboration-

ree

This kind of factory uses digital twin simulation. When the actual factory while working also the digital factory working. Main goal of the digital twin is the early detection for anything that can make up for the lack of process. For example faults, or machine manager’s tiredness, condition of machine parts. Digital twin Works based on three technologies which we mentioned before.

-Time of Digital Factories-

ree

-Smart Solution-

ree

To sum it up, factories like Mitsubishi turned their gaze to the factories without human idea. That’s why everyday they are trying to be more humanless. Because it is more cheap, effective, fast and suited to human rights. On the other hand, I am wondering what are going to do as much as these people on earth without working, without Money… Because in today's condition you can not live without working. Maybe tomorrow we can find a more sensible and efficient way to solve problems like this…
