ICDET supports the position of EUROPEAN NETWORK ASSOCIATION , Permanent Roma conference and League of Equality for More education against racism and other forms of intolerance
"The undersigned organizations, institutions and civic groups, such as:
We observe with concern the increase in hate speech in the public environment and the demonization of ethnic and other minority groups;
We record alarming growth in language and hate speech among young people, including aggression and peer attacks inside and outside school;
We oppose racism and other forms of intolerance not only in its most extreme forms (eg physical violence), but we also take into account normalized, everyday practices of neglect and exclusion;
We are also aware of our responsibility for the prevention of racism and other forms of intolerance in our activities, as well as the active promotion of ideas and practices of anti-racism;
We remain true to the promise of equality, non-discrimination, security and life for everyone;
We call on national and local authorities, with regard to the development and well-being of young people, to:
Expand good practices in the field of formal education (eg the inclusion of the subject Civic Education in the curriculum), which will unequivocally address the problem of racism and other forms of intolerance in different forms and among different age groups;
Invest in quality processes of anti-racist learning and action in the field of non-formal education, including support for extracurricular activities, schools, summer camps, workshops and community meetings;
They use the accumulated training resources and capacity in national and local civil society organizations and support their opportunity to work with young people on issues of racism and other forms of intolerance.
