PR, MARKETING & MEDIA DEPARTMENT
NEWSROOM DESK

Тhe media is something very powerful and dangerous and I think the majority doesn’t realize it. Other thing that I observe is that people don’t know how to use it in a right way or they believe everything that they read, hear or see. Lately the social media is mostly used for manipulation and propaganda. And we are just so blind to see. People must be more responsible for what they read and believe. The news should be double-checked. Sometimes we even help sharing lies because we have just heard something and decided to repost or tell it to a friend. We become a part from and endless circle of lies and fake news.

Тhis project helped me to realize how important is to read more and more in order to get as much as possible from the truth. It made me think further about how I let someone’s opinion in some article to reflect on my own way of thinking. After the project I have started to choose better for where I get the information I need. I use more secure and trustworthy sources of information. I also try to explain to my parents the same think, because I have noticed that people around certain age don’t know how to use the social media in the right way. Most of them think that ‘all that glitters is gold'. So, I think my mission as their child is to inform them as well and help them about media.

At last I think that the mass media can be very helpful and useful thing we just need to be aware and prepared about the bad sides of it.

How did the project help me to get closer to achieving my dream?

The project was a great experience overall. We had a roadmap of activities. We started from thinking about problems in our countries. Then we thought how we could tackle those. Next, we chose a particular solution we wanted to develop and formed teams around it. The problem my team was dealing with is the problem of fundraising for ill people who need an immediate medical treatment. This is a very serious problem in Bulgaria. Usually there are people who can donate but as many people are poor, they don’t have the opportunity to do so. That’s why the idea I had was to create a platform for charity auctions. That way people could offer their belongings in auctions. The highest bidder gets the item and the money goes to a bank account of an ill person for medical treatment. We did a factsheet where we wrote the most important details as an outline for the project. We also had a place on the wall where we posted the result of all our work on the project.

Here it is:

We have a timeline of the project, rules for the team, our mission, and business model canvas. This helped me organize the ideas in my mind and made it clearer and easier to work on it. Now that I am in Bulgaria, I will start working on it and implementing the ideas in practice.

Lately I have been a witness of a different kind of discrimination that no one speaks about. Maybe the worst part of the discrimination that I see is related to the elderly people in Bulgaria. It’s sad to see how everybody avoids helping them in any rate – in hospitals, in shops, on the public transport. And for me this is the type of discrimination that bothers me. Not respecting adults is a huge problem not only for Bulgarian people but also everywhere abroad. The roots of this problem are hidden in the family. In my opinion the personal example of any parent is directly reflecting to their children so apparently the problem can be avoided only if we start to care and teach our children how they are supposed to treat the rest of the people no matter the age, social status or color of the skin.

Unfortunately recently I see that well-behaved model is something like ‘old-fashioned’ manner that everyone is basically ashamed to do it. I think that whatever wrong happens in the society you can find the actual reasons in the family. Lack of understanding, lack of love, lack of time for the members of your family, lack of education is the main thing that stands behind the bigger social problems. Everyone needs to put effort in showing good attitude towards anyone we meet daily. To change our selfish nature is step number one if we want to see improvement and development in our society and country. People are always busy, on a rush but that doesn’t mean that we have to be rude to one another. With the constant rudeness and lack of tolerance we stimulate the aggression to increase. We can see it on the news, at schools and even in the shop in your neighborhood.

We need to start caring. We need to be a good example for the children, because they are our future and that future depends on us. We build it every day.
